Developed exclusively for Hudson Wight, OceanVent is an active 3 layer laminated breathable fabric incorporating a high performance hydrophilic PU membrane laminated to a durable twill weave nylon outer layer treated with Dupont's Teflon Shield Pro+ extremely durable water repellancy.
LAYER 1 – Lightweight, flexible and highly durable twill weave nylon face fabric treated with Dupont's Teflon Shield Pro+ extremely durable water repellency.
OceanVent uses Dupont's extremely durable Teflon durable water repellency (DWR) that causes water to bead off the face fabric rather than soak in. Please note that as with all high performance 3 layer breathable fabrics used by all sailwear brands, extended use and constant abrasion can wear off the DWR treatment. If water does not bead off your products efficiently, they will still be water proof but will not breath as efficiently and will benefit from simple re-treatment. We recommend Nikwax TX.Direct® Spray-On for easy DWR re-treatment.

LAYER 2 – Highly waterproof and breathable hydrophilic PU membrane, laboratory tested to withstand over 20,000mm of vertical water pressure and to allow moisture to escape at a rate in excess of 10,000 grams / sqm / 24hrs. This exciting development of high performance membrane, laminated to the back of the face fabric, actively absorbs humidity and sweat produced by the body on the inside of your garments and allows it to evaporate rapidly on the outside.
We believe this active process of absorbtion and evaporation is the best choice for sailwear and is more effective than microporous breathable membranes that simply rely on very small holes in the membrane which can be blocked by salt and dirt. We have chosen a breathability rate of over 10,000 grams per square metre per 24 hrs and we believe this gives sailors the ideal balance of breathablility and warmth retention.
LAYER 3 – A non absorbant mesh lining, laminated to the inside of the hydrophilic PU membrane to protect it from wear.
This third layer is included when no fleece or other lining is incorporated into the garment. It is the superior solution for high performance foul weather sailwear and replaces the need for a cumbersome mesh lining used by other brands in their lower priced, often called “Coastal”products. Sailwear produced using 2 layer fabric and a mesh lining is much cheaper to produce but is heavier, dries less quickly, is harder to put on and take off and is much less comfortable to wear. We advise all sailors to choose foul weather sailwear made using 3 layer fabrics with a high performance hydrophilic PU membrane.
