Lizzy heads off on her solo non-stop 1000nm offshore qualifier race
14th May, 2014
Hudson Wight, the newly branded Mini 6.50, has set off on another solo epic with our sponsored offshore solo sailor Lizzy Foreman at the helm and once she has returned to base she will have fulfilled all the qualification requirements for the Les Sables – Azores 2014 – two legs covering 2,560nm solo – and the Autumn 2015 Mini Transat.
Lizzy is tweeting news and images as and when she can via @lizzytwigs and there are cameras on board so we hope we can bring you some footage from the voyage when she returns. In the meantime, you can track Lizzy’s progress at

Lizzy is taking the downwind route to Ile de Re, goes round it and under the bridge. Hopefully she will be following the weather pattern to go up to Lands end and the to the Coninberg buoy Ireland, back to Lands end and the to Lorient. She has to allow for the separation zone in the Irish Sea. Lizzy has taken a sextant to do the required celestial navigation, and will have to keep and accurate log 8 times a day. They are expecting the Irish sea to have a big swell and more wind towards the end of the trip.
